Everything We Do Is Made Possible by YOU

SFWA is a public charity under its 501(c)(3) status, which means that monetary gifts from our community help us with our ongoing mission to support, defend, advocate, educate, and promote both within our organization and in the SFF community-at-large.

We have multiple pathways to support the work!

Read on to learn more about upcoming opportunities through our SFWA in Community Summer Outreach Campaign.

Opportunities for Nebula 62 are coming soon, in dedicated windows for options curated to different parts of our literary ecosystem.

If you represent a corporate organization keen to learn more about partnering with SFWA, please write to office@sfwa.org to learn more.

SFWA in Community

After our Nebula season wraps up in June, there’s nothing more exciting for SFWA than gearing up to a summer in community: meeting up with fellow SFWAns and other genre fans at further conventions and book festivals; signal-boosting industry peers as they celebrate and fundraise for success in their circles; and preparing for our own grant cycles in late summer and early fall.

Join us this July 18 at 1p.m. PDT for our summer fundraising kickoff event!

Are you a community-builder in SFF? Would you like some mentorship framed around the development or maintenance of a conference, workshop, small press, or similar cultural space for writers in genre?

Quick Summary

Where the Need is Greatest allows SFWA to use your donation to bolster and expand existing outreach and programs and create new ones as needed.

The SFWA Givers Fund is a restricted fund of donations to SFWA used primarily to make grants to other organizations and a few individuals for their expenses in promoting the SFF genre.

The SFWA Legal Fund is primarily for legal actions on behalf of all SFF genre writers undertaken by SFWA, often as part of a larger group of organizations. Occasionally, the fund may support individual legal actions that affect all SFF writers.

The SFWA Emergency Medical Fund (EMF) offers grants to SFF genre writers facing unexpected one-time medical expenses. All SFF genre writers are eligible to request assistance from the EMF.

The SFWA Writers in Crisis Fund is our newest addition, launching this August 1 to support writers impacting by external conditions. More soon about this fund at sfwa.org/grants/writers-in-crisis

As SFWA is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) charity, all donations directly to SFWA are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law and your personal tax situation. Donors donating directly will receive a thank-you letter for tax reporting purposes. Donations made through another entity, such as PayPal Giving Fund, will receive a letter from that entity. Please consult your tax advisor.

Our preference is that donors use The PayPal Giving Fund. No fees are charged or collected by PayPal for these donations, and it ensures that SFWA can utilize the funds in the best way possible for our mission.

Should you have any problems making a donation, please contact office@sfwa.org for help.
