Interfictions Online
News release from Interfictions:
A new issue of the genre-bending literary magazine Interfictions Online is live, and sure to amaze and surprise fans of the weird and uncategorizable. This trailblazing brainchild of the Interstitial Arts Foundation is in its fifth edition, with work by Richard Bowes, Keguro Macharia, Stephin Merrit, Peri Himsel, Sonya Taaffe, and more!
Fiction editors Christopher Barzak and Meghan McCarron describe their selections as moving “between the poles of memoir and fiction, reality and fantasy, nightmare and dream, where nothing is stable or certain, where we inhabit the in-between.”
Nonfiction includes Macharia’s “Octavia Butler’s Survivor: Romance & Speculation” and Himsel’s “Can You Hear What I’m Saying.” Fans of nonfiction can expect surprising turns from Macharia as he reads Butler’s work through the genres of speculative fiction and romance. Himsel’s poignant piece explores of deafness, disability, and entertainment.
Alex Dally MacFarlane has joined Sofia Samatar in curating the poetry for the magazine. They say, “Our poetry selections seek the spaces between languages, between nations, and between human and animal bodies.”
Arts editor Henry Lien showcases two exclusive, commissioned micro-songs from acclaimed singer- songwriter Stephin Merritt of the Magnetic Fields, and a performance by a choir composed of live and telepresence singers.
With Issue five, Interfictions says goodbye to esteemed editors Barzak and McCarron and welcomes Nebula nominees Sam J. Miller and Carmen Maria Machado for the following two issues.
