Strange Horizons 2013 fund drive–last call!
Strange Horizons‘ 2013 fund drive ends Monday.
From their press release:
In his editorial for this week’s issue, editor-in-chief Niall Harrison
described 2013 as an “exciting and energising year” for Strange
Horizons. Over the summer the magazine was nominated for the Best
Semiprozine Hugo Award and saw one of its stories, “The Grinnell
Method” by Molly Gloss, win the prestigious Theodore Sturgeon Memorial
Award for best short fiction of the year. This year the magazine has
also launched a tie-in podcast, and a reprint series of classic
critical essays.
To support the fund drive, a special ‘fund drive issue’ of Strange
Horizons has been commissioned, with new work being published with
every $1000 raised. The issue includes new stories by Nisi Shawl and
R.B. Lemberg, poetry, reviews, essays, and an interview with Helen
Oyeyemi. The full contents can be seen here.
In addition all donors are entered into a prize draw including a range
of books and special offers, including copies of new novels by Lauren
Beukes, Alaya Dawn Johnson, Lavie Tidhar, magazine subscriptions, and
artwork. Prizes will be announced in batches throughout the month.
Harrison also announced two initial goals for the fund drive, if the
initial target is met. If a total of $12,000 is raised, new readers
will be added to the monthly poetry podcast, to better showcase the
diverse and international voices published by Strange Horizons. If a
total of $13,000 is raised, artwork will be added for one story each
month, starting in January 2013.
Strange Horizons is a not-for-profit, volunteer-staffed magazine of
and about speculative fiction, founded in 2000 with the aim of
highlighting new voices and perspectives in speculative fiction and
related nonfiction. Since its founding, fiction and poetry published
in Strange Horizons has been nominated for awards including the Hugo,
World Fantasy, Rhysling, and James Tiptree Jr Awards. For more
