RIP: Kenneth Bulmer (1921-2005)
UK writer and fan Kenneth Bulmer died peacefully on December 16, 2005 following an extended period of illness. He was 84.
One of science fiction’s most prolific writers, he published 165 novels and many short stories under at least 22 pseudonyms. His best know work is the Dray Prescot series written as Alan Burt Akers. 52 novels were published in the series, though 15 of them were published only in German.
Bulmer was active in UK science fiction fandom. He published the fanzines Star Pride, Parade, Juggernaut, Steam (with Pam Bulmer) and others. and was President of British fandom’s first amateur press association. In 1955 he was the first person selected by the Trans-Atlantic Fan Fund (TAFF) to travel to North America.
In 1974 he was made a Life Member of the British Science Fiction Association.
The funeral will be in Tunbridge Wells on the December 30.
