We’re down to our final week in the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association’s first-ever seasonal giving campaign, and we couldn’t be more thankful for all your support to date.
SFWA staff and board set a modest fundraising goal of $20,000 to provide greater support for our efforts to uplift, defend, advocate for, and educate creators in science fiction, fantasy, and related genres.
We have $14,705 left to raise to hit our goal before Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 11:59 PM PST.
That’s why we are thrilled and honored to announce that Veronica Roth will support a 3X matching campaign, up to $10,000. Veronica Roth has been an active member of SFWA since 2019, and she has always embodied the power of community while rising in our field. Roth is the #1 New York Times best-selling author of When Among Crows, Arch-Conspirator, Poster Girl, Chosen Ones, the Divergent series, and the Carve the Mark duology.
Recurring donations count, too! Every dollar can move mountains for a 501(c)3 nonprofit, and the ones we can rely on regularly allow us to grow our services for long-term sustainability.
Since 1965, SFWA has provided a range of member and public benefits to assist creators at every stage of their careers. We have public resources for writers still aspiring to their first big sale, and services to assist creators thinking about their lasting legacy. In 2025, SFWA’s contracts committee assisted 46 authors. We support writers in honing their craft and building our community, which is why we offered 160 public-facing and member-only events in 2025, and are excited to keep that momentum going in 2026.
SFWA provides grants for projects supporting related genres, emergency medical funding to writers in need, legal advocacy, and contract support. But we have always done so with a lean staff supported by a tremendous group of volunteers. We onboarded 35 new volunteers in 2025, and the only way to support their work properly, along with the work of all our other dedicated volunteers, is to invest in infrastructure that will make their time and energy well spent.
Your donation goes to Where the Need Is Greatest, so that we can respond to the most pressing needs of writers every step of the way. 2026 is already shaping up to be a big year for writers’ education, uplift, advocacy, and defense, and SFWA looks forward to providing more opportunities for creators to address their needs in community.
If we raise $3,334 among other SFWA members and the general community, SFWA will be eligible for Veronica Roth’s generous donation of $10,000.
