************************************************************ Sir Alec Guinness (1914-2000) ************************************************************ Sir Alec Guinness, stage and screen actor for over 60 years, died August 5, 2000 in a hospital in Southern England. Guinness, age 86, won the Best Actor Oscar for 1957 for his role as the Colonel in The Bridge on the River Kwai. He was famous for many roles but recent generations remember him most for his role of the Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars movies. The actor was rushed to the hospital by ambulance from his home on Thursday and passed away on Saturday evening. The cause of death was not announced.
