Reuters and the Associated Press report that author and artist Edward Gorey died Saturday near his Cape Cod home after suffering a heart attack earlier in the week. He lived in Cape Cod since 1986.

Gorey, age 75, wrote over 90 books and illustrated 60 others. He won a Tony Award in 1978 for costume design for the Broadway production of "Dracula." He was perhaps best known in the United States for his illustrations for the opening and closing credits on the PBS television program "Mystery."

Earlier this year, it was announced that Gorey would be a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Horror Writer Association in May. http://www.sfwa.org/news/hwalife.htm
