Nebula Awards Showcase Publications


AwardWeb Science Fiction award news.

The Compton Crook/Stephen Tall award is given for the best first book of the year in the SF/Fantasy/Horror genres, and has been awarded by the Baltimore Science Fiction Society since 1983.

The James Tiptree Award is given to the work of science fiction or fantasy published in one year which best explores or expands gender roles.

The John W. Campbell Best New Writer Award Eligible Author Web Site has two purposes: to give Science Fiction and Fantasy fans who are interested in voting for the Campbell award the information they need to choose their candidate for best new writer, and to provide a site for new writers to showcase themselves.

The Literary Award Database is a collection listing numerous awards, their nominees, and the winners.

Alpha Ralpha Boulevard has an interesting assortment of SF/F author mini-bios and bibliographies.

Ascent of Wonder: The Evolution of Hard Science Fiction has many author biographies and book descriptions.

Atomic Rockets: So You Wanna Build A Rocket? This site was mainly intended for science fiction authors who wanted a little scientific accuracy. But anybody who is interested can play with the toys contained within, designing their own Planet Rangers Rocketships. It is assumed that the reader has enough knowledge to know the difference between a star and a planet, and enough skill to use a pocket calculator. Computer spreadsheet and computer programming skills are a plus, spreadsheets in particular will make your life much easier.

The Black Hole: These pages are an attempt to locate verifiable response time data as well as "horror stories" for markets that have kept (or are keeping) manuscripts far longer than one might consider reasonable.

The Center for the Study of Science Fiction at the University of Kansas.

The Centre for Astronomy and Science Education (CASE) at the University of Glamorgan has thoughtful blog discussions on current space science and science fiction topics.

The Dragon Page Radio Talk Show is heard on a variety of broadcast stations as well as worldwide via the internet. Composed of a dedicated audience of writers, readers and fans of science fiction and fantasy, the Dragon Page primarily focuses on the literary aspects of fantasy and science fiction. They are always on the lookout for great authors, both new and established, to feature on the show! (note: the review page on this site does not currently meet our link guidelines, and this site has a link in spite of that section rather than because of it.)

The Fantasy Film Worlds of George Pal. Pal was responsible for such landmark films as "The War of the Worlds", "The Time Machine" and "When Worlds Collide". He revolutionized stop motion animation with his "Puppetoons". The site also has some very interesting history and little know facts about Pal and his astounding body of work.

First Fandom: Anyone who has engaged in correspondence, collecting, conventions, fanzine publishing or reading, writing or participated in a science fiction club for at least 30 years may be eligible for Associate Membership.

GLBT Science Fiction and Fantasy Literature: A Web Directory. This site links to online resources on published science fiction and fantasy literature (known collectively as speculative fiction) with themes related to gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered people. Some horror fiction sites are also included.

Infinitee Designs offers a link farm geared toward art and illustration in SF/F.

ISFDB (Internet Speculative Fiction DataBase) is a "continuous, ongoing effort to catalog works of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror. It is an attempt to link together various types of bibliographic data: author bibliographies, publication bibliographies, award listings, magazine content listings, anthology and collection content listings, yearly fiction indexes, and forthcoming books. "

One of mid-America's oldest science fiction clubs, the Kansas City Science Fiction & Fantasy Society was created to foster interest in the literary forms known as science fiction and fantasy. Their Web page has information about local fandom, about the SF/F Hall of Fame, and more.

Locus Magazine's Index of Books Received Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror: 1984-1996. The contents of anthologies, single-author collections, and magazines. Locus Magazine is edited by Charles N. Brown; this index is maintained by William G. Contento.

The Mid-American Fan Photo Archive is a gallery of over 2400 photographs of science fiction fans and professionals taken at conventions and events around the world. There are links to convention photo pages at other sites with thousands of additional photos.

The Mining Co. Guide to Fantasy/SF Books has reviews, F/SF links, and commentary.

The Mythopoeic Society is a a non-profit international literary and educational organization for the study, discussion, and enjoyment of fantasy and mythic literature. NESFA on the Web New England Science Fiction Association's web page is rich in information, including good "recommended reading" lists, information about conventions, and SF/F-related links.

Online Resources for Blind and Partially Sighted Readers of Science Fiction and Fantasy

Reading for the Future is a campaign aimed at using science fiction literature to help turn on our nation's kids to reading, excitement and wonder.

Romantic Science Fiction and Fantasy--a display of forthcoming books with covers.

Russian Science Fiction and Fantasy has information about Russian SF/F in general and especially about Russian science fiction writers.

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Research Database is an on-line, searchable compilation and extension of Science Fiction and Fantasy Research Index 1878-1985, Science Fiction and Fantasy Research Index 1985-1991, and Science Fiction and Fantasy Research Index 1992-1995, including material located since publication of the last printed volume. User suggestions, particularly with regard to items which should be added to the database, are welcome.

SF4M: The Science Fiction Forum at Stony Brook (SF4M) is a multifaceted organization / club at SUNY Stony Brook. The purpose of the SF4M is to make science fiction and fantasy available to those who are interested. We accomplish this by maintaining a science fiction, fact, fantasy and horror lending library (17,000+ volumes), showing films and videotapes, and by organizing various science fiction related activities and events whenever possible.

SF Site is devoted to SF, Fantasy, and Horror in all media, "but our focus is print. Science Fiction Citations for the OED: This page is a pilot effort for the Oxford English Dictionary, in which the words associated with a special field of interest are collected so that knowledgeable aficionados can help the OED find useful examples of these words. This, our first project, is science fiction literature.

SciFi Dimensions has reviews, interviews, and industry news. It's visually intensive and requires an up-to-date browser.

SciFi Noir focuses on black contributors to the genre.

SciFiToday.com is a hangout for science fiction fans and writers, scientists, futurists and science enthusiasts

SF Site: Steven H. Silver has a wealth of sf/f information and links on his page, including book stores, reviews, Chicago Science Fiction, and more.

Spacer Com has a twice daily update of the latest commercial space news along with a growing report on planetary science news.

Spicy Green Iguana offers links to 125 speculative fiction magazines; a good resource.

Star Trek WWW "Internet's most comprehensive Star Trek resources collection."

"The Ultimate Science Fiction Web Guide has thousands of links, mostly to authors and reviews."

The Write Hemisphere is a blog of writing-related news/links/information geared toward writers of speculative fiction.
