New to the Bulletin

This issue introduces several new features to the Bulletin:

New Member Focus - a short bio of a writer who has just joined SFWA. This issue profiles Berry Kercheval

The Biz! This section will note news about SFWA and its members, as well as news about the publishing industry, editors, artists, and anything else that bears on the lives of genre writers. Send your news to the Bulletin. We welcome photos and cover art.

Two times a year, we will publish the Nebula Award Recommendations. We will not be printing the names of recommenders, nor the number of recs, but we will note which works have qualified for the Preliminary Ballot.

Welcome Aboard!

The Bulletin extends a warm welcome to our new Business Manager, Jean Rabe. She is a dynamo who has already dived in and is currently developing our annual budget among many other tasks.

Steve Carper has stepped down as Business Manager, after many years of stellar service, to focus on his own projects, including a long-awaited revision of the SFWA Handbook. The Bulletin wishes to publicly thank Steve for his efforts on our behalf. The good news is that we have prevailed upon him to continue his invaluable Writers' Bloc column for the Bulletin.

New Columnist! Nancy Holder discusses Paranormal Romance in her debut column to be called "Bag of Holding." Nancy's vast experience writing for many different genres makes her the perfect person to share that expertise with SFWAns who are interested in exploring the possibilities of different fields in genre fiction.

There is lots more coming soon: Legal Eye will note legal developments of importance to writers. We have a six part series on Work for Hire by William Dietz starting in the next issue. We will be doing articles on writing for television, video games, webisodes, and pretty much anything else of interest to a working writer, genre or not.
