The Pittsburgh International Airport is a hub city for USAirways, and features direct flights to Canada and Europe. It was a pioneer of the AirMall concept and has dozen of stores and some decent restaurants. You can rent a car and drive to Pittsburgh, from the airport, but it's much cheaper to rely on mass transit in the Pittsburgh area.
It only costs $1.95 (bring exact change) to ride from the airport to downtown on the PAT Transit's 28X Airport Flyer. This bus stops in front of the Ramada Inn, which is less than two blocks from the Marriott. During the week, the bus leaves the airport from the lower level bus stop (near the baggage claim) at about 6 and 36 after the hour. On the weekend, it leaves the Ramada Inn at about 23 and 53 after the hour. Pick up a PAT Transit 28X timetable for the latest schedule. Call 412-442-2000 for more information.
The Pittsburgh Gray Line Express features to-your-door shuttle service. The Shuttle features service between downtown and the airport about twice an hour. It costs $12.00 each way or $20.00 for a round trip ticket. You can get more information about this shuttle in the baggage pickup area of the airport. Call 412-471-8900 for more information. Generally plan to leave about two hours before your plane is due to leave; if you're leaving Sunday morning, leave about two and a half hours early to compensate for the Pittsburgh Marathon traffic.
There are other limo services between the airport and downtown and they cost more money.
Since the Pittsburgh International Airport is over 20 miles from downtown, we recommend you avoid taking a cab unless your plane arrives at a very odd time.
The Amtrak station is just a few blocks from the hotel, and there is daily train service between New York City and Pittsburgh. Service for Friday, April 30 between New York and Pittsburgh appears to be sold out. Consult Amtrak for more information.
The Greyhound bus station is across Grant Street from the train station. Both are about six blocks from the hotel. Walk down Grant Street (take a left from the train station or a right from the bus station) until you reach Sixth Avenue, take a left and walk about another 1.5 blocks. Just past the bridge over the highway, you'll see a pedestrian walkway to the Marriott.
